B.C. reports 258 new COVID-19 cases

B.C. health officials reported 258 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 357,758 cases.
The numbers of total and new cases are provisional and will be updated when verified in the weekly report starting on Thursday (April 7), according to a B.C. government news release. An update on the number of deaths related to COVID-19 will also be provided on Thursday.
Of the new cases, 37 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 76 in the Fraser Health region, 49 in the Island Health region, 85 in the Interior Health region, 11 in the Northern Health region, and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.
There are 334 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 and 35 are in intensive care.
To date, 11,508,767 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,358,529 of those are second doses and 2,677,473 are third doses.
This means that 93.8 per cent of adults, 93.5 per cent of people aged 12 and older, and 90.9 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 91.5 per cent of adults, 91.1 per cent of those aged 12 and older, and 87.4 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses; 59.5 per cent of adults and 57.8 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.
Health authorities reported two new health-care facility outbreaks. Active outbreaks continue at nine long-term care facilities and three acute care facilities.
As of today (April 5), people not vaccinated accounted for 12 per cent of the B.C. population, while they account for 17 per cent of COVID-19 critical care patients in hospital.
